I continue to wrestle with the inevitable. I have been a computer nerd my entire life; well, at least since my father brought home our first PET. In parallel, my “desk” is an ever-amorphous amalgamation of simulator cockpit vs useful workspace.
The reality of 3-dimensional space here dictates that my current setup “will not fit” in a van with enough space left for tasks like sleeping or processing body fuel products. And while I’ve aimed high in the solar capacity aspect, this interface I inhabit will not be parked in sunlight 24/7.
So what are my options? Give it all up? Make do with deprecated systems? Sell the hardware? Will the economy and geopolitical machines even afford me a choice in it? We shall see.
I believe we all know where my sights are settling. VR is coming of age. I’m not set up for it, and it’ll have to be a full system replacement. HOTAS, pedals = no probs. Panels of buttons, switches and displays – not so much. Tradeoffs of immersion, like so many tradeoffs in life and reality itself, I suppose. Interesting to think about. And frustrating trying to keep up to date and effective with it all.
I guess that’s enough rambling for now. Little by little. One foot in front of the other.
